Wondering about what to expect at your Estate Planning Meeting? Here's a look into our process here at Law Office of Lyngeolle Morris

In this blog post, we share some insight into how we work with our clients. We value the time we have together because we know how important it is for you to put the necessary planning in place to protect your loved ones and leave behind a legacy you are truly proud of.

Below, we share our step-by-step process from our initial engagement right up to the stage when you sign your documents and even after your documents have been finalised.

Our Estate Planning Process

Step 1 - Initial Call & Appointment Setting

Arranging a call and setting up an appointment is the first step in getting the estate planning process started.

During our initial phone consultation, this serves as an incredible opportunity to learn more about you and your specific goals. We discuss your plans for protecting your future and the future of your loved ones and what it would mean ultimately for you to get your estate plan completed.

By establishing your goals, we begin to get a picture of how we can best assist you to put legal planning in place. Based on our initial call, we will invite you to make an appointment so that we can meet and dive deeper into your estate planning goals as well as what are the best options available to you.

Step 2 - Planning & Design Meeting

Once this meeting is scheduled, we will inform you about the specific documents or information that you will need to gather prior to our meeting so that we can make the most out of our time together.

During the planning and design meeting, we explain important estate planning concepts and begin the process of outlining what it would look like to protect your assets and your loved ones through a formalised legal plan. We then provide you with some options and then present you with a fee quote for the plan you choose. If you choose to move forward with a plan that has been outlined, we enter into a formal engagement agreement and from there, we agree to begin drafting your plan. At this time, we will also schedule a date for you to return to either review or complete your plan.

Step 3: Drafting & Review

We will schedule a further meeting with you to discuss the draft version of your plan and we will then use the opportunity to review the plan together. If there are any pieces of important information that need to be considered or any changes that you would like to make, we use this opportunity to make any amendments to your plan. This step is critical as our goal is to ensure that your wishes are properly and accurately expressed.

If however, you are satisfied with the plan, we can go ahead and have your plan formalised at this stage.

Step 4: Signing Ceremony

The signing ceremony occurs after you have completed the review process and are ready to proceed with signing your document or documents. Congratulations, your estate plan is now completed and your wishes have been legally formalized!

Step 5: Ongoing Advisory

We then make a plan for how you would wish to store your documents and provide advisory on how your fiduciaries can locate your documents at the appropriate time.

We are also here to serve you in the event that you may wish to make any amendments to your document or in the event that you wish to revoke it so that a new document can be put in place to reflect your final wishes.

Final Note:

Putting the proper planning in place to protect your assets and your loved ones requires time, attention and commitment. Sometimes the hardest part can be getting the ball rolling and initiating the first step, which is contacting a professional to understand how the process works.

Here at Law Office of Lyngeolle Morris, our goal is to get to know more about you and to understand your unique goals. We look forward to meeting with you to create a plan that truly honours your wishes.
